Those who suffer from sleep disorders find it difficult and fearful to relinquish conscious control and surrender to their unconscious. The insomniac should learn to consciously close the day, process the day's experiences and give thanks for them. He should explore what was the primary trigger for his actions (really more like reactions to environmental stimuli) and especially surrender all worries and fears to the Universe thereby simultaneously summoning their successful resolution
Sleep is a basic need for humans and animals, and we spend about a third of our lives asleep. Sleep disturbances are very hard to bear and sleep deprivation is rightly perceived as a major threat. We need a safe and comfortable place to sleep, a specific bed, a location, a time. During REM (repetitive eye movement) sleep we have dreams through which the unconscious communicates with us. Let's look at sleep and insomnia from the perspective of the spiritual nature and causes we have written about in this article.
Sleep is often referred to by analogy as the younger brother of death. Sleep requires us to relinquish all control, intentionality, and activity, which demands a commitment and trust to letting in the unknown. This is why falling asleep cannot be enforced by force, self-control, will, or overpowering. We can create the conditions for it, but then we just have to wait for it to happen. For the most part, we are too proud of our actions and deeds, too dependent on intellect and control, to behave with devotion, trust, and freedom. No wonder, therefore, that insomnia (along with headaches) is one of the most common health disorders of our time.
Those who suffer from sleep disorders find it difficult and fearful to relinquish conscious control and surrender to their unconscious. The insomniac should learn to consciously close the day, process the day's experiences and give thanks for them. He should explore what was the primary trigger for his actions (really more like reactions to environmental stimuli) and especially surrender all worries and fears to the Universe thereby simultaneously summoning their successful resolution ("Seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you.") and building primordial trust and the ability to surrender/deliver. Before this summary of the day, I recommend a pure, sincere and deep prayer that will open our connection to the "upper world" and help us in this activity. This practice will not only correct sleep disturbances in the long run, but will allow us to know ourselves and progress on the path of self-discovery and spiritual advancement. We can help this transformation with orgonite pyramids for good sleep, calmness/peace or a meditation pyramid.
We still have the old "tricks" of counting sheep, focusing on one point, breathing, repeating a mantra, available before sleep itself. All these cause us to let go of the intellect, tire the left half of the brain and switch to the right hemisphere, from the day side to the night side, from activity to passivity.
Insomnia should raise the following questions:
To what extent do I depend on power, control, intellect, observation?
Can I get rid of them?
To what extent has the capacity for surrender, the primordial trust, developed in me?
How much do I fear death - have I come to terms with it sufficiently?
That simpler and more popular than the above procedure is the application of sleeping pills and powders is evidenced by the increasing number of people with sleep disorders and the marketability of sleeping aids. Which route will you choose?
